History

The MLPOA has a long and colourful history.

The organization began as an ad hoc, grassroots gathering of cottagers in the 1960's, when a group of cottagers formed a coalition to promote the establishment of proper sewage treatment from the town of Madoc. This group was called the "Moira Cottagers for Clean Water".

Membership was $3.00 and there were 11 members, primarily property owners located what is now called Zone 6A. One of the key founding members was Reverend Douglas C. Jay, Ph.D., OC, (now deceased.)

In 1984 there were 130 members and dues were raised to $5.00. The Constitution was adopted in 1986, and the Association was incorporated in 1993.

In 2025 we have over 200 members, a majority of residents on the lake.

Our Logo

The MLPOA Logo was designed by local resident Dolores Holiday in 1995.

In 2006 the logo was updated and streamlined with Dolores' approval.

Study the logo carefully and you can see two loons, a trillium, lake waves, rolling fields and a bird in flight. Integral to the logo's meaning is the connectedness of our environment.

The birds in the sky, the flora, fauna, the Lake and the life it supports in relation to the surrounding land are all represented in the design.
