Fishing Regulations

The 2025 Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary is now available online.

The summary contains all the details you need to plan your next fishing adventure, including, but not limited to:

 

Before you go fishing, we encourage you to review the 2025 Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary and ensure you have a valid fishing licence.

Fishing licences can be purchased or renewed:

Fishing Seasons on Moira Lake

 

  • Largemouth and smallmouth bass combined

    • Season: third Saturday in June to December 15. 

  • Muskellunge

    • Season: 1st Saturday in June to December 15.

  • Northern pike

    • Season: January 1 to March 31 and second Saturday in May to December 31.

  • Walleye and sauger combined

    • Season: January 1 to March 1 and second Saturday in May to December 31.

 

Fish for free (no licence required)

Four times a year, Canadian residents can fish in Ontario for free. This means you do not need to buy a fishing licence if you want to fish during:

 

  • Family Fishing Weekend (February 15–17, 2025).

  • Mother’s Day Weekend (May 10–11, 2025).

  • Father’s Day Weekend (June 14–15, 2025).

  • Family Fishing Week (June 28–July 6, 2025).
