November 18, 2025 - MLPOA Lagoon Site Visit & Upcoming Report
On November 18, members of the MLPOA Board joined representatives from Centre Hastings Council and staff for a site visit to the Madoc Sewage Lagoons. The visit provided an opportunity to gain a first-hand understanding of lagoon operations and observe the facility in action.

Our sincere thanks to Typhany Choinard, CAO of Centre Hastings, and Deputy Mayor Eric Sandford for organizing and facilitating the visit.

The MLPOA is in the final stages of completing a comprehensive review of lagoon operations, including an analysis of discharge data from the past six years. We anticipate sharing the report with members and presenting it to the Municipality by the end of the year. Members will receive an update once the report is available.
October 18, 2025 - Two Projects Approved
We are very pleased to announce that Moira Lake, after significant planning effort, has been selected by Watersheds Canada for the completion of two projects in 2026: a Walleye Spawning Bed Rejuvenation and a Shoreline Environmental Impact Survey.

These projects form an integral part of our Comprehensive Lake Management Plan (CLMP) and, along with ongoing efforts in Water Quality Testing, complete a significant portion of the plan.

September 27, 2025 - Fall Water Level Drawdown
On Thursday, September 25, Quinte Conservation announced the fall drawdown schedule for the Moira watershed. This annual event involves lowering the water level in the lake to reduce the potential for shoreline damage and flooding in the spring. This year's drawdown will commence soon after October 14.
We have been advised by Quinte Conservation that, due to the already extremely low water level in the lake, this year's drawdown impact will be minor, likely only 2 to 3 inches, with the bulk of the drop, up to 2 inches, happening in the first day after the dam is adjusted. The lake will then take 1 to 2 weeks to stabilize.
Even with this small drop, Quinte Conservation still advises all property owners on the lake to remove boats and other floating structures from the water by the above date.

September 03, 2025 - Quinte Conservation Issues Level 3 Low Water Warning
Quinte Conservation and the Low Water Response Team have declared a Level 3 Low Water Condition due to lack of rainfall and low flows in local waterbodies, including Moira Lake. This is the most severe low water level.

Quinte Conservation has advised us that they do not expect to use the lake as a reservoir for downstream bodies and that there will be no change in the dam level at the lake outlet. That being said, the water level on the lake is extremely low and caution should be exercised when boating.
