Walleye Spawning Beds Rejuvenation

When: September 2026
Where: Near the narrows at Hwy 62

Following from recommendations in our walleye population report that found a 76% drop in walleye catch from 2010 to 2022, a preliminary assessment o f walleye spawning beds was completed in August 2025. As a result, in October 2025, Moira Lake was selected by Watersheds Canada to participate in a Spawning Bed Rejuvenation Project. Planning work will begin in spring 2026 with project delivery in early fall.

Working with Watersheds Canada, we will clean existing beds of silt and algae, then add clean, appropriately sized river rock to known spawning areas to create or restore gravel-cobble beds.

This project is jointly funded by Watersheds Canada, the Municipality of Centre Hastings, Yamaha Financial Services, and the MLPOA.
