Event Descriptions

Kids = 12 and under

​

Water Events

 

Kids: In-water Ball & Spoon Race

• Kids run a short race, balancing a ping pong ball on a spoon while wading in shallow water

​

Kids: Take-A-Plunge Event and/or Adult-Child Wading Race

• Take-A-Plunge Event: Competitors run from the beach into the water as fast as they can. Last person standing wins.

• And, depending on time, an Adult-Child Wading Race. An adult (or older child) holds the hand of a younger child and races in shallow water out to a marker and back. Ideal for very young children.

Kids: Kayak Race

• Competitors race a short course out to a marker and back.

• Singles only (no tandem kayaks)

Joint: Sponge Relay Race

• Teams of two, each person takes multiple turns running back and forth between a bucket onshore and the water trying to fill the bucket to a pre-determined line by squeezing out a large sponge.

• Ideal for adult / kid teams

Joint: Doggy Paddle Canoe Race

• Teams of two to four (if more than two, then two members must be children) try to paddle a canoe across a finish line using only their hands to paddle.

Adults: Kayak Sprint Race

• Full length kayak race. Out to marker and back.

• Singles only (no tandem kayaks)

Adults: Canoe Race – Pairs

• Teams of two race canoes out to a marker and back.

​

Adults: Voyageur Canoe Pull (Water Finale event)

• The voyageur canoe will hold 15 people

• Two opposing teams of 6, each captained by a CQML staffer

• Teams sit at opposite ends of the canoe, one facing the stern, the other the bow

• Compete to see who can paddle the canoe to a marker by paddling in opposite directions

• Sort of like an in-the-boat tug of war

Land Events

 

Three-Legged Race

• Teams of two race against each other with one leg tied to the other person

• Depending on numbers could have a kid’s and adult’s race

​

Sack Race

• Individuals race (hop) while standing in a large sack

• Depending on numbers could have a kid’s and adult’s race

​

Tug of war

• Two teams try to pull the other team across a marker

• Teams will be made up in advance based on activity sign-up

• Depending on numbers could have a kid’s and adult's ‘tug’

​

Face Painting

• Volunteers will wander the venue offering face painting to kids.
