LYL Shoreline Survey Project

The Moira Lake Property Owners Association is participating in the Love Your Lake (LYL) shoreline assessment program in partnership with Watersheds Canada. The program helps lake communities better understand shoreline conditions and identify opportunities to protect and improve lake health.

During the survey period, trained LYL staff will travel along the shoreline by boat and photograph properties from the water. These images are used to document shoreline characteristics such as vegetation cover, natural buffers, docks, and other features that can influence lake water quality and habitat.

The collected information is analyzed using a standardized assessment method that has been applied on lakes across Canada. Each shoreline property receives a confidential, personalized report outlining how its shoreline features support or affect lake health, along with practical suggestions for maintaining or improving natural shoreline conditions.

At the lake level, the program also produces an overall shoreline health report summarizing general trends and opportunities for stewardship. These findings help guide future education, conservation, and lake management initiatives.

Participation in Love Your Lake helps establish a clear baseline of shoreline conditions for Moira Lake and supports ongoing efforts to protect the ecological health of the lake for future generations.
