Transporting Firewood to or from the Cottage? Please don't. Firewood can carry small but harmful hitchhikers that are often hidden in the bark or wood. The damage caused by invasive species such as the emerald ash borer can expand exponentially when they get rides from families on vacation - even if it is only a few kilometres away. In fact, the emerald ash borer has killed millions of ash trees across Canada. Check out http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/for/prod/firee.shtml#a

Many of our Private Roads/Lanes continue to experience garbage and re-cycling problems, including improper re-cycling practices and DUMPING. To ensure you are following the proper practices, please go to the Quinte Waste Solutions web site at: http://www.quinterecycling.org/recycling.htm There is one major difference. Glass containers are not to be placed in the large blue bins, but placed in a separate container, ideally a smaller blue bin. Metal caps from glass containers can be placed in the large blue bin along with metal containers (tin and aluminum cans).
If you should witness anyone DUMPING materials at your Garbage and Re-cycling location, please record the vehicle license plate, and report the incident to the Municipality at 613-473-4030. For information on the Centre Hastings Waste Disposal Site, please visit www.centrehastings.com.
