Kiwanis Joins in Hosting the 2010 Non-Motorized Regatta
Madoc. The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Moira Lake Property Owners Association (MLPOA) are pleased to announce that the Kiwanis Club of Madoc will join the Regatta 2010 team.
“This is a natural fit”, says Tom Simpson, representing the Kiwanis. “For many years, the Kiwanis has managed the boat launch and beach on Highway 62. Though in the background, the Kiwanis has assisted in the preparation and administration of the Regatta. Joining the Regatta team now formalizes the partnership among the Municipality, the MLPOA and the Kiwanis.”
July 10th is the date for the 7th Annual Centre Hastings Regatta. Barb Bouchard has chaired the Regatta Committee since its formation in 2003. “We have seen many changes in the Regatta over the years. The Kiwanis Club joining our team is a significant milestone in the Regatta’s growth”, says Ms. Bouchard. “Each year, we strive to have more people from the village participate in the event. The folks from Kiwanis will help increase those numbers.”
Reeve Tom Deline commented, “The Annual Regatta is another excellent example of how partnerships among volunteers, organizations and service clubs make things happen. As for the Regatta, where else can we have a full day of free family fun?”
The 2010 Regatta will be held on July 10th at the Kiwanis Beach, Highway 62, just south of Madoc. Registration starts at 9:00 AM, and the races begin at 10:00 AM. Races are held in canoes, kayaks and peddle boats. Bring your own or use those supplied. Be on hand to have a chance to win a kayak and paddle from the Regatta’s major sponsor, ClearWater Design Canoes & Kayaks of Picton. Ont.

Golfing Event Raises Funds for Community Care
Madoc - West Highland Golf Course was filled with happy golfers on August 22nd during the first annual Moira Lake Property Owners Association (MLPOA) charity golf tournament. This tournament has been running for about 19 years, and this year, it was decided to make the tournament into a charity event.
A total of 56 people registered for the charity golfing event while another six just for the delicious steak dinner and to watch the fun.
Organizer Glenn Sidsworth began his game at the first hole with friends Jamie Loney, Karen Pearce and Dave Pearce. The trio came down to spend the weekend and enjoyed a great game of golf too. Glenn who has a cottage on Moira Lake is a member of the Association and has played golf for the last six years. Glenn said, "The MLPOA has been playing this tournament for 19 years and it is a great way to get together and have fun."
The tournament boasted a shotgun start which meant that all teams started spread the same time entire out over the entirs course.
The winning foursome of the tournament was comprised of Roger and Karen Tryon, Lorraine Steele and Jordan Hinchey.
The event raised money through the tournament, dinner and silent auction.
Treasurer Harry Quart said, "Of course the real winner was Community Care for Central Hastings and those who benefit from its activities. When the accounting is done, we expect this worthy charity will receive approximately $1,750 from this event."
The Moira Lake Property Owners Association greatly appreciates the generosity of the sponsors and participants for making this event a great success.
Appreciation and thanks were given to Glenn Sidsworth, Barb Bouchard, Vicki Sidsworth, Mary Stewart, Harry Quart and Kathy Quart for the great job they did in organizing this fun event.
